Garage Floor Coating Tips

Do you have a concrete garage floor? Does it have stains or even chips in the surface? If you answered yes then this is the article for you. There is a new way to protect your floor that is effective, long lasting, and easy to apply. Using a garage floor coating made out of epoxy is now considered the best method for treating your floor.

Epoxy is a very hard material that is produced when a resin and a hardener garage floor coatingare mixed together. Think of fiberglass which is composed of fiberglass resin, hardener and cloth. When this is cured it is hard enough to produce such things as boats, construction machinery parts, and race car bodies. The epoxy floor coating is the same idea you just don’t need the cloth because the concrete in the floor acts as the support agent.

The process is really quite simple. First you remove all items off the floor and then clean it with a good quality degreaser. Next, the floor is cleaned again with soap and water to be sure all the degreaser is removed. At this time you will use the beading test. If the floor is cleaned properly there will be no water beads as the water will soak into the concrete. If beads are present that means you need to retreat that area with degreaser. Finally, the floor is washed with a weak, 10%, muriatic acid solution to de-acidify the surface.

The two solutions, the resin and hardener, are then mixed together and applied to the floor using a roller. If the temperature is below 60 degrees F it is recommended you use a space heater to keep the temperature up as the cure will be better. The garage floor coating surface can usually be walked on within 24 hours and within 3 days it has cured to a hardness that will allow for normal use.

If you want to protect your floor then you will want to look at applying an epoxy garage floor coating.
